Oct 29 Update
Dennis made it to the next marker of recovery and I know you will celebrate!
Yesterday afternoon, he was moved from ICU up to an Internal Medicine ward. Thank you for pressing in with us as Tuesday and Wednesday were heavy days but he got there.
Abigail was able to see him last night. He was so pleased! He has a room with a view, a nice large window. It was startling to see patients sitting up and moving about after the reality of ICU.
I will meet with his Doctor when I go in this morning. What I learned last night is that they will start rehabilitation with him straight away. A move to get him sitting up and even to be able to sit on the edge of his bed is the goal for today. Dennis is struggling with some confusion, the result of being unconscious for so long but that too will clear. Abigail is gathering photos for his room, which will help him orient a bit more. I get to take his own clothes in for him and that will help as well. He is speaking well and clearly.
Once I get a clearer plan of what the goals and expectations for recovery at this level are, I will share that with you and we can partner with him to see them met.
Thank you all.
Gratefully,
Katie and Family
